UNC Leader congratulates CARICOM on 50th anniversary

CARICOM has made significant progress over the past five decades, including in trade and security, and economic, human and sustainable development.

This is according to UNC Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar who today congratulated the regional body on its 50th anniversary.

It was on this day in 1973 that the Treaty of Chaguaramas was signed, signaling the intentions of Caribbean nations to advance regional integration and development.

Mrs Persad-Bissessar says CARICOM has witnessed advancements though the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME), which has enhanced the movement of goods, services and skills in the region.

She is commending member states for upholding the ideals the organization was founded on and is calling for reaffirmation to those principles.
